first time I held the mobile tablet in my hands I was very afraid. My hands and legs were trembling. I was afraid it would break, that I would get an electrical shock. Since then I have taught 800 women in my village how to use the internet. And the lives of these women have changed a lot. I feel really good when I think that I have also been a part of bringing this change. Tara weaves carpets. She saw new designs on the internet and then her income increased. On the internet, we started learning new techniques of weaving. Now that we have more knowledge, we have started earning more. Imarti and Maharaj Singh were not getting a pension. I used the internet to help them know about and register for government pension schemes. We didn’t even know we were eligible for pension. But now that we are getting it, we are living a happy and peaceful life. Arti learnt how to use a tablet. When an opportunity came, we trained her to become a Jan Sakhi. We didn’t have a single doctor in our village, so I thought I should do something about it. Now I do regular health check-ups on everyone in our village. If anybody is ill, I immediately connect them to a doctor online. If you look at it, there’s just one problem in our village… Not having access to information. And once we teach villagers how to get this knowledge, they are the ones who bring the change themselves.
